I`m curious, if Kyle really has to take the american citizenship, if he wants to work there. I thought that actors do not have to change their citizenship, if they want to work in America.
In my opinion they wouldn`t even need a permission to work or a permission as a tourist would be enough, because they do not really take a job away from another american. If they are taken, than it´s a role especially for them. They are casted and chosen and they are artists.

I think they come here on a work permit and there's a period of review for citizenship. Also, I believe actors are sponsored by the Actors Guild, so that they can get housing and what now. Technically, I don't think they can vote in elections until they've gained citizenship. Craig Ferguson talks about it on his show, quite a bit... LOL!
No, they don't have to get a citizenship... no one is forced to do that. But I think, once they've lived in our country, it's just easier for them, all around, to do so... especially when it comes to medical needs. But they're not forced into getting a citizenship... it's a personal choice and a privilege.
Kyle loves his homeland, I think no matter what... he will probably always consider himself Canadian, regardless.

Their rights are protected... here's something from SAG:
http://www.sag.org/content/affirmative-action-and-diversity
Global Rule One:
http://www.sag.org/content/global-rule-one

I hope that clarifies some misunderstandings about the US and actors... what you are implying is just not true. No one is forced into citizenship... it's a personal choice and I believe also a privilege. The US is not this monsterous country that's been projected in other countries' media, and have been labeled as such... we are the land of the Free, afterall.
Our neighboring Canadians, especially, are loved and adored... we welcome them with open arms, and have done so for a long time.

Canadian actors can live here in the States under a work permit.

Many American TV shows, movies, etc. are filmed in Canada.  Under Canadian law, if the project is done in Canada, the producers have to employ a certain percentage of Canadian actors, crew. etc.   So it is advantageous for them to retain their Canadian citizenship.

This is why you will see a lot of the same actors guest starring in the TV shows that film in Canada.  You will see many actors that were in Blood Ties, also show up on Supernatural, the Stargate shows, Smallville, Sanctuary, etc.  They are all filmed in Canada.

Of course, there is always dual citizenship....... Kyle Rocks

thanx, Julie, I didn`t knew about that, that the series are made in Canada with a percentage of canadian actors. It sounds fair.
And I thought that , there are special relationships between the two countries.

Well, I have heard from a couple of Canadian actors who are not big names, that Canadian actors are not alweays greatly loved down south.

Nicknames such as Ice Niggers does not really seem welcoming ...

What?!... Must be something amongst the Hollywood types... because I've never heard such a negative derogatory statement like that made before, amongst the fans... in fact, this is the first I've even read it!
Sounds like what it must smell like... bullshit!

LOL! Ok, I have my brother and nephew standing here in my kitchen and I just asked them what that statement means...
reply: stop watching South Park! It's a satirical cartoon, not meant to be taken literally... no, Americans don't call Canadians; "Ice Niggers". Guess that answers that! LOL!
I have to admit, such an insinuation is rather insulting. I'd hardly call it a nick-name, either.

Sorry, I'm kinda embarrassed, because my brother just read through this thread.

*Ok, I just wanted to add, just to make it clear...
American FANS have always supported, loved and welcomed Canadian actors.
And I won't post in this thread anymore, because that was really insulting.
Don't believe it!

It wasn't fans using the term.
Some people don't like Canadian actors "taking" their work ...
And I don't know how happy they are that so many US productions are filmed in Canada either.

Try googling the expression.

I cannot says nothing.. but really, I feel strange, when a lot of actors, not so talented like Kyle, has a lot of success... only because they are "pure U.S.A."

Wow, I live as far south as you can get (Florida) and I've never heard that term before.  I know some of the biggest reasons that production companies film up in Canadian is that the Canadian government offers them incentives to film up there which they can't find in the states, that and the scenery up there seems to double for cities in the states where it would be cost prohibitive to film.  I guess you learn something new every day.  I don't care if actors are Canadians or not, just as long as they can act.
